The 14 best new restaurants in New York
Scene-stealing daily rotating menu, seasonally served in the middle of the New York City kitchen. A St. Mark’s shawarma stall run by two chefs who met at Daniel Boulud: Our critics found plenty to love in NewYork City this year.
Russell Jackson’s Harlem debut is a thoughtful evolution of a career that’s always been about more than just food. Best known for his bold, community-driven ventures, Jackson’s latest project feels like both a celebration and a homecoming. Nestled in a 150-year-old historic building with deep ties to Harlem’s legendary arts and music scene, the restaurant exudes a modern elegance without losing its heartbeat: a commitment to fairness, equity, and a sense of place.
The space balances a refined atmosphere with a warm, approachable vibe, reflecting Harlem’s rich cultural heritage while carving out something distinctly its own. The menu is equally intentional, marrying soulful crowd-pleasers with refined, complex dishes. Think crispy, golden-brown cornbread paired with house-made preserves, a perfectly roasted duck with seasonal greens, or tender short ribs braised in Harlem’s signature flair.
There’s a palpable sense that this isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a love letter to Harlem and all it represents. For Jackson, it’s not about serving the community; it’s about becoming part of it. And in his words, Harlem has given back as much as it’s received. Raise a glass, and welcome a newcomer who feels like he’s been here all along.

Much of the menu is rooted in seasonal wild seafood, but the restaurant isn’t afraid to honor traditions from Japan, while also reimagining them.
2. Okonomi
By day, this 12-seat jewel box in Brooklyn is Okonomi, a serene homage to the Japanese tradition of "Ichiju Sansai," where meticulously arranged set meals bring balance and elegance to every plate. But as the sun sets, the space morphs into Yuji Ramen, a bold, flavor-packed ramen destination that’s carved out its own niche in a city brimming with noodle spots.
The transformation is seamless, yet striking. Okonomi’s minimalist daytime vibe—bright, intimate, and contemplative—gives way to Yuji’s energetic, after-dark allure. The ramen here is anything but ordinary, with innovative takes like mazemen that celebrate the noodle in ways that feel both playful and profound.
Reservations are a must (via Resy, two weeks out), though a few coveted counter seats are left open for the lucky walk-ins. Whether you're savoring the precision of Okonomi or diving into the soulful bowls of Yuji Ramen, this dual-identity spot proves that small spaces can hold big culinary ambitions.

Marlow and Sons’ tone is set by the personal approach of the couple who own it.
Café by day, raw bar and restaurant by night, Marlow is Andrew Tarlow’s answer to a neighborhood spot that does it all. Best known for his effortlessly cool Brooklyn staples like Diner and Roman’s, Tarlow brings his signature blend of warmth and sophistication to this wood-paneled Williamsburg space.
By day, the room hums with locals sipping espressos and sampling good olives or a delicate tortilla española. As night falls, the vibe shifts—dim lighting and communal tables set the stage for Mediterranean-inspired dishes like wild-leek-and-goat-cheese tarts and briny oysters fresh from the raw bar. It’s both cozy and refined, a space that feels as comfortable as it is intentional.
And for those who can’t get enough of Marlow’s thoughtful ingredients? Marlow & Daughters, the nearby gourmet general store, ensures you can take a piece of the experience home. Tarlow’s knack for building spaces that feel both personal and buzzy is alive and well here—a perfect complement to the Williamsburg scene he helped define.

Lala’s Brooklyn Apizza hsa been packed since it opened, drawing eager crowds of mainly locals,
Savory delicata squash rings at Lala’s Brookly Apizza are an example of the crowd-pleasing, seasonally driven cooking the kitchen excels at.
Lala’s Brooklyn Apizza is Grimm’s foray into wood-fired dining, perched on the upper level alongside their breezy rooftop terrace. Known for their innovative beers and natural wines under the Physica label, Grimm’s leap into the world of pizza feels like a natural extension of their creative ethos.
The star here is their take on New Haven apizza—charred just right, with an impossibly thin crust made from house-milled malted wheat and fermented with their own sourdough culture. It’s all finished in an Italian wood-fired oven, lending each pie a smoky, rustic elegance.
But the experience doesn’t stop there. The terrace bar buzzes with options, from Grimm’s signature beers to a tightly curated cocktail menu, all complemented by the fresh, natural-leaning flavors of Physica wines. Whether you’re here for a charred masterpiece or a breezy rooftop drink, Lala’s captures the vibrant spirit of Grimm in every bite and sip.

The deck of the farm house puts on a show.
The Farmer and the Fish seafood is always seasonal and in limited selection, whole fish, and easy has a distinct and delightful flavor.
Farmer & the Fish may sit on a historic 22-acre property in North Salem, but it’s anything but old-fashioned. A collaboration between a fishmonger and an agriculturally trained chef, the restaurant effortlessly combines the charm of its 18th-century farmhouse setting with a hyper-local, fresh-from-the-field ethos that feels distinctly modern.
The menu strikes a balance between rustic simplicity and thoughtful craftsmanship. Picture a platter of briny, just-shucked oysters alongside vibrant greens picked mere steps from the kitchen, or a buttery fillet of fish paired with herbs grown on-site. Over three-quarters of the produce comes straight from their farm, ensuring dishes that are as fresh and seasonal as they come.
The space itself blends its Revolutionary-era bones with a warm, convivial vibe that’s both homey and sophisticated. Add in the reasonable prices and an ever-changing selection of high-quality seafood, and it’s easy to see why Farmer & the Fish has become a community favorite. Raise a glass to local flavor and sustainable dining—served with plenty of heart.

Mama Yoshi Mini Mart marks a new chapter for Yukiko Muneyasu and Miles Tickler, the duo behind the beloved Japanese-American pop-up that’s been quietly charming Queens and Brooklyn since 2017. Trading late-night bar settings for sunlight, their first brick-and-mortar spot in Ridgewood feels like both a homecoming and an evolution.
The menu centers on katsu sandwiches that strike the perfect balance of comfort and creativity. Choose between crispy chicken or tender cauliflower, served classic with slaw or spicy with pickles and a fiery 13-spice blend that remains a closely guarded house secret. Both are nestled in squishy potato rolls, with vegan mayo for the cauliflower crowd. For a nostalgic twist, there’s a Spam grilled cheese on milk bread, while katsu bowls and rotating specials keep things lively.
Set on Grove Street, Mama Yoshi Mini Mart feels as fresh and vibrant as its menu, inviting locals to savor a bite of Japanese-American fusion in a space that’s as much about heart as it is about flavor.

CHOCOLATE
Fine & Raw Chocolate
Fine & Raw Chocolate was established in 2007 in a notorious Williamsburg, Brooklyn artist loft by Daniel Sklaar. Daniel launched into making small Fine & Raw Chocolate batches and sharing them with friends, Fine & Raw Chocolate wholesale then started delivering them on his bicycle to local purveyors of fine food. It was apparent that the chocolate flavor was so good it was borderline addictive. Fine & Raw Chocolate wholesale grew based on the premise of producing organic, unparalleled quality chocolate and a shear love of the chocolate making process.
The “raw” in Fine & Raw is something of a misnomer. Sklaar and Fine & Raw Chocolate company do roast some of their organic cacao beans under lower temperatures and for longer durations than common in standard high-heat processing. Says Sklaar, “Raw chocolate is an amazing source of antioxidants. We’re basically looking to maintain those while playing with the unique flavor profiles of raw chocolate.” Fine & Raw offers chocolates using both “raw” and combinations of “raw” and conventionally roasted beans.
Fine & Raw Chocolate wholesale manufactures the finest chocolate in the world. Fine & Raw Chocolate wholesale specialize in bean-to-bar, organic chocolate bars and truffles, spreads and well, anything our imaginations can think of it. Fine & Raw Chocolate start by sourcing the worlds finest cacao beans and specialize in clean ingredients lists. Their products are always organic, plant-based and next level.
Fine & Raw Chocolate's first point of sustainability is a radically-transparent cacao supply chain which is focused on quality and direct relationships with cacao farmer! Fine & Raw's cacao is sourced from the highest quality and most ethical suppliers in Ghana and Ecuador. "We ensure that our farmers are paid above fair trade wages, because we believe farmers should have the economic freedom and empowerment to farm organically and develop sustainable land management practices. It is currently estimated that less than 0.5% of cacao beans are organic. By cultivating long-lasting and ethical relationships with suppliers and farmers, we hope to continue providing economic support for the organic cacao industry."
Made in Brooklyn, NY
Founded by Daniel Sklaar in 2007
